Is Season 2 of The Narrow Road to the Deep North Confirmed?
As of now, there’s no official announcement about a second season. The show was designed as a limited series, meaning it was intended to be a one-season story. However, some limited series have been renewed in the past due to high popularity. Fans are hoping this could be the case here.
The show is based on the 2014 Booker Prize-winning book by Richard Flanagan. It follows the life of Lieutenant-Colonel Dorrigo Evans, played by Jacob Elordi. The story is told through three timelines, before, during, and after World War II. Actor Ciarán Hinds plays the older version of Dorrigo.
During the war, Dorrigo is taken as a prisoner in Japan. While enduring the horrors of war, he finds strength in memories of a secret love affair with Amy Mulvaney (Odessa Young). Amy is married to Dorrigo’s uncle, and their romance happens behind the back of his wealthy fiancée (Olivia DeJonge).
After returning from war, Dorrigo becomes a surgeon in Sydney. Though he starts a new life, the past continues to haunt him. He begins another affair, this time with Lynette (Essie Davis), the wife of his close friend and colleague Rick (Dan Wyllie).
The series was written for TV by Shaun Grant, known for Nitram and Mindhunter. It features a strong cast, including Simon Baker, Show Kasamatsu, Heather Mitchell, and Thomas Weatherall.
The Narrow Road to the Deep North premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February. It is now streaming on Prime Video in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. The series also airs on the BBC in the U.K.
