Prime Video Expands UK True Crime Collection with New Documentaries
Prime Video is adding more gripping UK true crime collection documentaries to its platform. The streaming service has teamed up with Scottish production company Firecrest Films to release six new titles.
The first to launch is The Orkney Assassin: Murder in the Isles, which becomes available to stream in the UK and Ireland starting this Sunday. Two more titles—The Hunt for Shannon Matthews and Hunting the Tinder Predator—are set to arrive later this year. Details of three additional documentaries will be shared soon.
Chilling True Crime Stories from the UK
The Orkney Assassin: Murder in the Isles (1×90 minutes) uncovers a shocking 1994 murder in the remote Orkney Islands. A masked man walked into the island’s only Indian restaurant and shot a waiter before vanishing into the night. The case remained a mystery for years, until new clues led to a surprising arrest that stunned locals.
The Hunt for Shannon Matthews (2×45 minutes) revisits a 2008 case that shocked the nation. Nine-year-old Shannon went missing on her way home from school. A massive search followed, with media coverage and reward campaigns across the UK. But weeks later, Shannon was found hidden in a relative’s home. It was later revealed her family staged the kidnapping to claim reward money.
Hunting the Tinder Predator (2×45 minutes) tells the story of Christopher Harkins, a serial offender who used online dating apps to target victims. Over ten years, his crimes ranged from fraud to sexual assault. This series follows the survivors who fought for justice and sheds light on how the legal system and society responded.
Behind the Scenes
The documentaries are produced by Firecrest Films. Executive producers include Iain Scollay, Nicole Kleeman, and Vari Innes, with Rachel Heywood as the series producer.
Iain Scollay of Firecrest Films said, “We’re proud to work again with the Prime Video team and bring powerful, real-life stories to viewers across the UK.”
This new slate builds on the successful partnership between Prime Video and Firecrest, which began in 2022 with the Amazon Original series Three Mothers, Two Babies & a Scandal.
These true crime documentaries offer deep dives into real-life investigations, uncovering shocking secrets and highlighting the strength of those who seek the truth. Prime Video subscribers in the UK and Ireland can look forward to more crime content throughout the year.
