The Rings of Power Season 3 Starts Filming with New Cast Members Joining
Amazon has officially kicked off production for The Rings of Power Season 3. Filming is underway at Shepperton Studios in the UK, the same location where Season 2 was shot. As the cameras start rolling, the streaming giant also announced three fresh faces joining the cast of the hit Prime Video series.
New Actors Join The Rings of Power Cast
Season 3 will feature Andrew Richardson as a regular cast member. Viewers might recognize him from Apple TV+’s sci-fi show Extrapolations. Alongside him, Zubin Varla (seen in Andor on Disney+) and Adam Young (from Masters of the Air) are also joining the series in recurring roles.
These actors join previously announced newcomers Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things) and Eddie Marsan (Heartstopper), who were confirmed earlier this year. Their casting followed Amazon MGM Studios’ official renewal of The Rings of Power for a third season.
Who Will the New Cast Members Play?
Amazon has not yet revealed which characters Richardson, Varla, and Young will play. However, there’s plenty of room for speculation. According to the show’s official plot outline, Season 3 will move forward in time, focusing on the War of the Elves and Sauron. This major battle, lasting nearly a decade, could be the main storyline of the season.
It’s likely that the new characters may be warriors, commanders, or key figures from different factions involved in the war. They could also be well-known characters from J.R.R. Tolkien’s lore.
Possible Roles in Tolkien’s Universe
One theory is that these new cast members could portray the Kings of Men. In Tolkien’s story, Sauron eventually gives nine powerful rings to mortal kings—who later become the terrifying Ringwraiths. Among them are the Witch-King of Angmar and Khamûl the Easterling. It’s possible that Richardson, Varla, or Young might play one of these future Nazgûl.
There’s also speculation that one of the new characters might be related to Durin IV, possibly a brother or rival for the throne of Khazad-dûm.
