Prime Video’s surprise comedy hit — Overcompensating Season 2 is already in the works
Amazon Prime Video’s latest comedy is turning heads, and it’s not stopping anytime soon, Overcompensating Season 2 is already in line. Since its premiere on May 15, the show has quickly won over both critics and fans, earning a strong 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers are calling it the “show of the year” for 2025.
The series was created by comedian Benito Skinner, who also stars in the lead role. Skinner plays Benny, a gay college student who’s still figuring out his identity and hasn’t come out yet. After making it through freshman year, Benny sets off on a journey of personal growth, learning to deal with his feelings, relationships, and the ups and downs of college life.
Season 2 Already in the Works
Even though season one just dropped, Skinner has already shared that season two is being planned. Speaking to Variety, he said he knows where the story is heading and hinted that the next chapter will explore even deeper themes. “There’s still so much we want to say,” he said, teasing that the season one finale sets up an emotional follow-up. “There will be backslide, and that’s what the finale is about.”
Skinner described the show as a wild look at how people try to hide who they are, especially in college, a place full of high emotions, partying, and self-discovery. The story deals with themes like identity, pressure, and the masks people wear to fit in.
Mary Beth Barone, who plays Benny’s sister Grace, said she’s excited to dig deeper into their relationship. She hopes the siblings will finally open up and be real with each other.
Adam DiMarco, who plays Peter, the classic college jock, also teased the second season. He called it “unhinged” and “insane,” saying, “I know what Benny has planned, and it’s so good. I wish I could say more.”
While Amazon hasn’t officially confirmed a second season yet, fans are already hooked and hoping for more. One viewer, Cristian Fernandez, shared how much the show meant to him. “Some shows are just entertainment. But this one, it felt like it was made for me. I laughed, I cried, I saw myself on screen.”
